Children’s book author and storyteller Shachi Kaushik recently spoke with us on her book inspirations and upcoming new projects. She also had tips for parents and encouraged them to keep on reading and dancing along with the kids! To share a true love for reading, parents need to have fun too!

Contrary to how reading gets associated with academics in our lives, Kaushik encourages parents to develop young readers by letting them choose their favorites. Reading along and enjoying the process as a tip is particularly helpful to develop reading as a fun family activity.

Austin and Calgary based, Kaushik got her own start in children’s books with her book, Diwali in my new home. The book was listed in several awards for bringing a diverse new culture and perspective into our reading lives. And what fun when you read by dancing along with kids!

Kitabi Qisse started as a series of conversations with South-Asian creatives on their favorite book inspirations. The series ran from February and will close for 2023 in August. We will restart in 2024.
